Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter March 16, 2021

I posted on my Facebook account the sad story but I might as well share it with the readers of the Hot Finds as many of you have had this happen. Yesterday I had to put down a car (yeah kinda like Old Yeller). Coming home from our camping trip my 2004 Buick SUV left me and 3 Scouts stranded on the side of Interstate 20 in Columbia. The call came Monday that my car has a blown head gasket among other issues and at 199k miles it’s time to put this 17 year old vehicle out to pasture.
This has been my primary patch traveling vehicle since 2013. I borrowed it from my parents to drive to the inaugural Jamboree at the Summit so I would have room to haul stuff and people. Later that fall I bought it from them and since then it’s been to Maine, the Indy TOR, FL, TN and parts all over. So for right now I’m driving our Mini Cooper but that’s not going to work out too well for chasing down collections. So I have my eyes open to find what my friend is calling the next “patch wagon”.
I have a new video out today featuring an interview with John Hall talking about the Alabama Trade-O-Ree coming up May 7-8. This will be the 7th annual edition of the event and as you will hear in the video John has built it up with food, silent auctions, merit badge classes, and a tie in with the local council.
I have 220 live auctions on eBay with a batch ending every night of the week. You’ll find that I’m still listing lots of neckerchiefs this week with old camp and event pieces leading the way. I’ve been sorting through Jamboree patches the last few weeks and finally have all of my duplicates sorted and scanned. I hear rumors there might be a Jamboree in ’23 but nothing official that I can tell.
You might notice that I have continued to play with the format of the newsletter. I think this is my 3rd different tweek since being forced onto the new platform. I am still trying to figure it out but I think today is a step closer to getting it just the way I want it.
