Friday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter March 19, 2021

Yesterday my daughter decided to make some funny memes for our Camp Barstow Instagram account. I am not on Instagram so I was happy for the account to get some attention. She made 1/2 dozen that were pretty funny but I only posted the tamest one which related to the merit badge bundle that she teaches. But I appreciate the interest and fresh ideas. Old men don’t speak “Instagram” very well.

Today I have a visitor coming to the warehouse. Stuart Tucker is a local Scouter who is very active in his retirement years. He has helped me with the Charlotte TOR for several years teaching Collections and Scouting Heritage merit badges. Today he wants to help me sort my old red patrol patches. Since I have a big tub of those I said sure come on!
I got a box in the mail yesterday from Bill Chadek. You might remember Bill is from Nebraska and restores old Scout hand axes and knives. Bill was a recent guest on my podcast. I made a big trade with him and sent him about a dozen axes. After recovering from hand surgery he polished up some of those and sent them back to me. I’ll do a quick Facebook video maybe today showing everybody the finished product.
I have 235 live auctions on eBay right now. For the first time in months I don’t have a big Sunday wave to promote. I was pretty focused on listing mugs and event patches recently and didn’t get an interesting batch ready. But I’ve had good success with the neckerchiefs that I’ve had up and for the rest of March will be auctioning vintage event patches too.
I am taking a ton of pictures today for the next big project on my list. I think I’ll be able to finish that before the end of the day. A few have asked about the search for the next patch wagon. I don’t have anything definitive to report but there is a deal simmering that might come to fruition. Stay tuned!
