Is it Real…Or a Copycat Making Felts?

I reported on the Wakoda felt that sold on eBay recently. Turns out that in the span of a few short days another one has popped up. I’m putting the question out to JQ Public – is it real?

Lodge 246 A1 Wakoda Very Rare!! No Reserve!!

Hell no. Note that the real one has pretty much dead straight segments on the sides and bottom of the arrowhead, while the fake has wiggles along the same lines.

Also the W of Wakoda should not be touching the green border, and there shouldn’t be a slight gap in the green border right by the tip of the arrow.

Fake as all get out. Would be interesting to ask the seller for the dimensions–the felt fakers in the past (e.g. the Wetassa round recently) have tended to make things the wrong size.

Here I have for bids an apparently very rare patch from an old campground/lodge. I’m not where exactly it comes from, or how old it is. I received this from my grandfathers estate, and decided to see how much it fetches on ebay, AND I WAS SURPRISED!!! The patch seems to be in excellent condition, although it is alittle yellowed from age. I have emailed several people as to the history of this patch, and the best I have come up with is below. I tried to take the best picture possible, but I only have a 5 megapixel camera, and it’s not even a good one. I zoomed in to get as much detail as possible. Please ask any questions before bidding and I’ll try to get answer them as well as possible. Just please keep in mind I’m not as familiar with this as I am some other things. I have priced the auction based on what the last one listed sold for, but I’m open to offers. I have several other patches I’ll be listing once I find out exactly what they are, so check back periodically.

This is what I have been told about the lodge:

246 Wakoda Fennimore Cooper Council

White Plains, NY
Lodge Data
Chartered: 1943
Lodge Totem: Pine tree
Name Translation:
Changes: 1951: Merged with Wippocee 86 to form Apachedotte 246

A $500 down payment is due at the end of the auction, via Paypal. The entire balance is due within 48 hours. Because of Paypals new policies that I don’t agree with, there may be a hold placed on payment. The item will not leave until payment clears. This could take 21 days if a hold is placed. I recommend you review ebays policy on holds to speed the process up. I’m not allowed to offer any other payment options. You may email me with any questions about payment or shipping. Shipping is free, and this includes delivery confirmation and insurance. I’m willing to deliver the patch in person(during the weekend) for $1 per mile, with a 500 mile max distance.

THIS BADGE IS IN A SAFE DEPOSIT BOX, AND IS NOT STORED ON THE PREMISES TO AVOID ANY RISK OF THEFT!

Key words in his decrpition I found funny… it was his grandfathers, it was yellow, he was surpriced and he has serval more… be for he list them he wants to see how high this one goes…

I dont believe this patch to be real. I sent the seller the following question:

Could you please provide more information on the origin of this patch. Did your grandfather recieve it? If so what year and do you have any documentation to accompany the patch. Such as membership cards, photos of him wearing it, or a personal letter from him describing the circumstances for how he recieved it. Also if you have other patches that came with it it would really support this patch.

This was his response:

Dear carolinacloth,

I found the patch in an case with about 30 other patches, all from different lodges. He also had old scout uniforms, tools and other things. It was a collection of his, among many he had. I don’t think any of the patches support it, but I know he took pride in his collections and didn’t keep anything that wasn’t worth it. I feel terrible having to sell them now, but due to funeral costs and the bills he left behind we are forced to sell. The other items were purchased last week by a private collector. Thanks for your interest.
