We are finishing up week 1 at Camp Barstow on a high note. The Scouts and leaders were blessed with a week where the high temperature all week was 83 and I actually spotted a jacket or two at the morning flagpole assembly. The staff has been great and we are getting out sea legs under us to set up for a great summer. Bring on Week 2!
Success! Matt Delk and I had over 20 people come to our pop-up musuem. Considering we were competing with the likes of tubing, rifle shooting and a pontoon boat tour that is saying something. Matt focused his presentation on “Blades” while I went through the history of merit badges.
Right now on eBay I only have 40 live auctions but I’ve been able to schedule more to begin launching starting tonight. Camp is pretty much all consuming but over the weekend I have been able to get some new stuff in the que.
Tonight we will have our closing campfire and then send these troops home with some great memories. Last night during our campwide patrol event called the Barstowree we got a pretty nice comment. Larry Green (www.scoutpioneering.com) told my program director that was the most Scout spirit he had ever seen at a camp. Larry did his Scouting beginning in the 1960s so that really put a smile on my face.
