Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter July 12, 2022

Things got pretty busy with camp and so I am a day late getting the issue out to the readers. Hopefully you can still get your eBay fix with these live auctions.

I have spent a little time day dreaming about what the right mix will be of trading at NOAC and figuring out time to throw some things up for auction. I admit I do not have a good answer but there is a benefit to getting the new stuff out there quickly and that’s my goal every time there is a big event.

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that yesterday my boyhood council voted to merge with a neighboring council. COVID and bankruptcy have not been kind to the Pee Dee Area Council which was made up of 11 mostly rural counties in Northeastern SC. We had an awesome run for more than 85 years but for the last thirty there have been a couple of hints that merger was the way it would end. Turns out the one-two punch of the pandemic and bad publicity with the court cases were the final straw. I have such good memories of my time growing up in that council and I know many of my lifelong friends are very bummed this week.

On eBay I have 249 live auctions running on a host of things including event patches and neckerchiefs. Even with NOAC coming up I have auctions already built out into August.

There are multiple PDAC troops at Camp Barstow this week and we have all kinda consoled each other over the changes taking place. I am sure that many of them will wear their parakeets with pride but hopefully the new council will be able to revive Scouting in the areas I grew up in that have been struggling for some time.
