Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter October 24, 2021

A busy October of camp promotion wraps up today as we host an open house at Camp Barstow to meet units interested in learning more about the camp. So far this month I’ve been on a 1600 mile trip through Florida and a much shorter trip to Rock Hill, SC to talk to units about our camp. In the age of the Internet camps have to really do the extra mile (LOL) to convince units to come during the summer.

Last night as I was streaming my favorite teams football game (don’t ask about the outcome) my project was pulling together my CSP collection. You have probably never heard me mention even having one here in the Hot Finds but I sorta collect a little of everything and now that I have a solid Excel spreadsheet to work from CSPs are up next. My goal is to get 1 CSP from every council that issued one. Sorry RWS I am not ready to go there!

The best thing about sitting on a 50k item inventory is that some of my needs were already in the warehouse. I had a very good collection to start from but there are a few new issues that luckily I had on the shelf. Like everyone I need a Bronx Valley, Central Indiana band issue etc. But if I have 95% of them without trying too hard that’s a win.
On eBay I have 225 live auctions including about 50 vintage OA flaps that end tonight. I’ve spent the last two weeks going through boxes of stuff that I’ve purchased trying to line up more stock to list the rest of this year.
At the open house we are also giving out staff neckerchiefs to the members of last summers camp staff. Matthew Delk and I got these ordered but they came in just a few days late. We are trying to build a culture on staff where we can get people to come back every year so giving the staff some well earned swag is a win.
