We have visited all the family and today, the last day of the year, will be one staying home and reflecting on goals and new opportunities in the coming year. Today I’ll finish merging all of my eBay stores into one. Today I’ll write down goals in my journal and scratch out a tracking system to monitor progress. Today I’ll read several more chapters of The Slight Edge and see where I can weave that in. What are your New Years Eve rituals for turning the calendar?
Yesterday on the drive to see family I presented my wife with a calendar for the family discussion that included 7 TORs and numerous OA events I hoped to attend in 2024. Her reaction was a little bit of WTF. But we talked about it and put some of these on the “maybe” list and agreed to some compensatory make up days for the Saturdays that might be lost especially during the season we hope to plant a nice garden. So marriage is always a compromise and especially when talking about the family calendar.
The other big change for me in ’24 is that I let the council know back in September that I won’t be returning as Camp Director. After six summers (including a Covid summer in 2020) at Barstow I made the difficult decision to step away. Those six years were a great time for Sophia to serve on staff and grow up as a person. We both made life long friends in the process. I’ll cherish those summers because I REALLY like being on camp staff and wearing a uniform to dinner every night. Maybe once some time passes I’ll come back in a simpler role like some of my friends have done once their kids are moved out and life slows down.
