For a few years now Matthew Delk and I have put on a program at camp on Tuesday nights that we call the Pop Up Scout Museum. Each of us picks a topic and does a 15-minute show-and-tell presentation to share the history and get folks interested. Then this devolves into answering questions – letting the Scouts handle the collection and eventually some patch trading breaks out. One year I even filmed an unboxing video on a night when Matt couldn’t be there and gave away some of the loot.
Last year I focused on campfire blankets and Matt focused on Insignia and especially rank patches. I had hopes to have my frames built out by now with my OA flap and CSP collections ready to go. But unless I can pull it off in a week that likely won’t happen. So I think I’ll revisit the topic I did the first summer which was using a display of dozens of merit badge sashes to teach Scouts about that topic. After all they are at camp earning merit badges!
Over on Patchblanket I have almost 300 live auctions including mugs, pins, camp patches and more. I’ve been really going deep into my inventory lately. I’ve organized everything from bolo ties to RWS and metal n/c slides.
