It is a sad irony that there are so many collections (accumulations in some cases) coming available but the buying market for these is not as strong as it was in years past. Right now on eBay there are over 200k items in our category but I can tell you from my sell through rate that on the modern stuff...Read More

As you will hear in the interview one of the neat things about this event is that it's held at the local camp and is fully supported by the lodge. That means cabin rentals and free camping for anyone staying overnight. Perhaps the best part is the meals prepared by the cook crew which are only $5 each when you...Read More
This picture is kinda typical of the items I was offered. Mostly people's personal Scouting items not the accumulated collection of a true collector. These small collections can be very fun to purchase because they usually are affordable and almost always contain a few surprises. Hopefully my tardiness in engaging these folks doesn't mean I've lost out but at least...Read More
Old vintage activity patches are a fun and inexpensive area to play in. Sometimes you can sell one for $1 or it might go for $5 or more. I decided to group the combined collections into lots of about 15 patches each and offer them for $20 shipped. These are numbered Lots 1-10. If somebody wanted to buy them all...Read More
This is the troop patch from one of the two all girl Scouts BSA troops that attended the World Jamboree. Troop 252 was the Southern Region troop that included girls from TX to FL. Sophia said she had a hard time trading them at the Jambo. I guess it needed to be a little more exotic of a design to...Read More
Speaking of videos Brad England and I have plans to catch up later this week and film a World Scout Jamboree round up episode of Thread Heads. Brad and his daughter traded at the WSJ at the beginning of the visitor period and I went up at the tail end. I can't wait to debate the rule on no trading...Read More
When I picked up Sophia later Friday afternoon she was full of stories. We sat for over an hour listening to her tales of meeting Scouts from Japan and Portugal. We also heard about the usual troop drama but mostly it was all good. I asked her last night at dinner if she thought she would be a different person...Read More
I don't know if August is really when the action on eBay heats up but I'm going for it anyways. Yesterday I got over 100 World Jamboree items listed that I was able to bring home after 3 days of visiting. I have not really been watching closely to see which of the WSJ items are doing the best. I...Read More
Before trading a few patches I took a quick tour with my daughter seeing the sites near the Summit Center. The highlight of which was visiting the museum staffed by Bob Hanna, Dave Miura, Doug Schwab and Sam Fairchild to name a few. I had a nice long talk with Bob and he told me Russell Smart had a lot...Read More
If you go over on my Facebook profile I filmed an unboxing video for a collection that came in last week. This one is from the west coast. I've been working on it for about 6 months and it is almost completely OA which is my favorite collecting area to resale. It's about 3.5 hours from Charlotte to the Visitors...Read More
I am at the High Country Bus Festival. No not school buses but rather vintage VW camper bus folks. If not for the rain I would be tubing in the river right now but the forecast for tomorrow looks sunny so that will have to wait a day. Yesterday we closed down Camp Barstow for the season after a very successful summer. We rolled the dice with a completely different programming model and it was a huge hit with the Scoutmasters and Scouts. Overall we had a 30%+ increase in attendance. The plans for 2020 area already underway and we will get the leaders guide polished up in...Read More
My other motivation is I landed my second large collection in the last three months that has 1000+ OA flaps so I have a lot of work to do scanning listing and selling these items to recoup money. My daughter is going to the WSJ and this will be her Scouting memory. CLICK HERE TO OPEN THE JULY 21, 2019...Read More
This week we have welcomed 3 Scouts from France to our camp. It's really neat to see the friendships they have already created since arriving in the country. My daughter will leave Friday for her troops shake down and then on to the WSJ. CLICK HERE TO OPEN THE JULY 14, 2019 ISSUE OF THE SCOUTING HOT FINDS NEWSLETTER
