There has been a great thread on the Patch-L listserve where people are naming and thanking those who influenced them in the hobby. Now mind you they are talking about people who have mostly passed away but the kindness and willingness to help others get started are not forgotten. My takeaway is how many Scouts and Scouters can you help...Read More
I am going to try and make lemonade from lemons. Having the Charlotte TOR bounce around on the calendar because of Easter has been a problem every year. So maybe with the postponement we find an early fall date that can settle in as the best option going forward. I was also going to miss the Dixie Fellowship for about...Read More
Here is a view I am a little more proud of. This is the heart of the operation where all the online action happens. From this main work room all the eBay listing, shipping and Best Hobby Pages magic happens. It's still a work in progress but today we managed to mostly get caught up on shipping which means things...Read More
By all activities they include Scout meetings held at the church and sadly that includes the upcoming Charlotte Trade-O-Ree in two weeks. I spoke with the Cubmaster last night on the phone and we have decided to postpone the event until after the summer. I cant give you a date yet because we have to get back on the church...Read More
I'm using my Scout contacts to help me get things moved over. Later this week a Scout leader is going to help me build some shelves and a countertop work space. Then this weekend I've got some Eagle Scouts who are going to help me load the Uhaul. I'd much rather hire folks like this then pick up some day...Read More
I've seen people sharing pictures online of their trips to TORs over the last few weekends. The typical photo is of their "haul" but others have shared pictures of the venues and sometimes even a group photo of people who attended. Most of this action is over on the Scout Patch Collectors Facebook group. I have been in regular contact...Read More
Many of you would laugh out loud at the scene yesterday. My daughter is on spring break so I enlisted her help in moving boxes from my old warehouse space to the new. Several times she would look inside the box and say "dad nobody is ever going to want this crap why don't you throw it in the dumpster"....Read More
I missed sending out a Friday issue because I was running all over creation getting stuff for my new warehouse. I started the picking at 8 AM at a warehouse where I got things from a guy off FB Marketplace including shelving, a fridge, thermal printers, labels, and more. Then I drove to Spartanburg to meet an employee of Chris...Read More
It seems like I've always got some sorting going on and this week is no different. This is pieces of the collection that I picked up about 10 days ago that is now being sorted out. It's an OA collection which I really like since I speak that language well. For 25+ years I've been an OA collector myself and...Read More
As planned Saturday I did make a 9 hour round trip to go pick up a nice collection. This is a collection from a family I've been working with for some time so it's tying up loose ends and closing out a consignment. I don't have an estimate on when I'll be getting that collection back out for sale as...Read More
Last night was AOL crossover for our troop. Six Scouts joined our troop from the Cub Scout pack and were welcomed on the other side of the bridge. I believe we will get a big influx of parents and committee members as well which will be a welcome addition. These new Scouts are now in the Otter patrol and will...Read More
OAimages.com The Complete Story With John Pannell When I launched the Scouting Hot Finds Radio podcast in 2011 one of the first big names I landed as a guest was John Pannell. My interview with him was eventually broken up into 3 episodes of the Podcast (#12, #13, #14) with the final one being a 1-hour live show. Many collectors...Read More
Yesterday I went live on Facebook to sell the next batch of 100+ flaps from a large collection that I've been running through the Comment Sold system. If you missed it no worries all of the items are now available on www.ScoutPatchLive.com just click on "shop all items". Tomorrow I'm going to spend the bulk of the day driving to...Read More
Now comes the blitz! Last night at the Blue & Gold Banquet for the host pack I implored the parents to do the #1 thing they could to help the event - show up! Thursday night I am visiting the South Charlotte Round Table to make an announcement and giveaway coffee mugs. I've also have a friend passing out fliers...Read More
I talked with Roy More at the TOR in Indy about marketing efforts to get TORs to be successful. I really think something that has helped us in Charlotte is having buy-in from the local units, lodge and council. Two different units make money from the TOR and that gives us manpower and concessions to help the show run smooth....Read More
